This is a very complicated recipe but well worth the effort!! Too often, German cooking is viewed as simple and easy. This recipe provides something different-German cooking as it is presented in the best 5-star restaurants all over the continent. Due to the combination of spirits in the sauce, this salad is excellent with almost any drink.
Ingredients:
6 large potatoes
10 cups water
4 tablespoons red peppers
4 tablespoons garlic salt
3 large carrots
1 large red onion
10 cups water
2 tablespoons salt
1 lb white cabbage
1 cup beer
1 cup vodka
1 cup white wine
1 cup water
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons black pepper
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons dill
2 tablespoons caraway seeds
2 tablespoons anise seeds
2 tablespoons dried parsley
2 tablespoons basil
2 tablespoons garlic powder
2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons ground ginger
2 tablespoons white pepper
2 tablespoons thyme
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 lbs romaine lettuce
1 lb grape tomatoes
1 lb baby carrots
3 cups canned corn, drained
3 cups canned peas, drained
3 cups fresh green beans
Directions:
1. Boil 10 cups of Water with Red Pepper and Garlic Salt added.
2. Cut Potatoes into 6-8 pieces each.
3. Add to boiling water.
4. Meanwhile, boil 10 cups of Water with Salt.
5. Chop Carrots into thin slices.
6. Finely chop Red Onion.
7. Add Carrot and Onion to second pot of boiling water.
8. When all vegetables are fork tender, drain them thoroughly, but do not rinse.
9. Finely chop Cabbage.
10. Mash Potatoes together with the Carrots and Onions.
11. Gently mix Cabbage into the Potato mixture.
12. Chill vegetables.
13. In small saucepan combine beer, vodka, white wine, water, and milk and bring to a boil.
14. Mix all seasonings in a small bowl.
15. There are 20 seasonings listed and all are absolutely essential.
16. Add seasonings to the boiling mixture.
17. Boil mixture for 5 minutes with seasonings added.
18. Remove mixture from heat and chill.
19. When vegetables and sauce are chilled, add sauce to veggies.
20. Mixture will be pretty runny.
21. Return to refrigerator.
22. In a large bowl, combine chopped Lettuce, Tomatoes, chopped Carrots, Corn, Peas, and chopped Green Beans.
23. Toss fresh veggies with the chilled veggie/sauce mixture.
24. Serve cold.
