Ruby Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients:
ruby red cake
cream: 1/2 c crisco, 11/2 c white sugar, 2 eggs, 2 oz. red food color, 1 tsp vanilla
sift: 2 level tsp cocoa, 2 c cake flour, 1tsp salt
Directions:
1. Add flour mixture into creamed ingredients alternately with 1 C buttermilk. Beat vigorously with mixer. Then add 1 tsp soda in 1 Tb vinegar. Do not beat in with beater. Just stir in with spoon, but mix well. Bake 30 min. at 350o in 2 8” or 9” greased and floured pans.
2. Frosting for Red Cake:
3. Cook over med-low heat until thick:
4. 1 C milk
5. 1/4 C flour
6. pinch salt
7. Let cool.
8. Beat until very fluffy:
9. 1 C sugar
10. 1 C butter (room temp.)
11. Add cooled flour mixture and beat until fluffy. Split each cake layer and put frosting between and on top.
