This is an awesome recipe for sauce that is ever evolving, It started out as a recipe that I found and have tweeked for the last 15 years and my family loves it every time I make it. I find the sauce to be much better the next day, once it has cooled and been reheated but that is just a personal preference. Enjoy
Ingredients:
12 ounces tomato paste
5 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes (be sure that it is plain, not seasoned in any way)
3 large fresh garlic cloves, shredded with a small grater
1 medium onion, chopped up
3 teaspoons oregano
2 bay leaves
2 teaspoons dried basil
2 teaspoons italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
olive oil
1/4 cup grated cheese
1 lb ground meat
8 links sweet italian sausage
Directions:
1. Brown up sausage in pot you are using to make sauce, when browned up push to the side but keep in pot.
2. Brown chopped meat in a separate pan.
3. In the same pot as the sausage saute the chopped onion in olive oil. Just before you are done add the shredded garlic.
4. Add the cans of crushed tomato and tomato paste.
5. Add the browned chopped meat.
6. Add the oregano, basil, bay leaves, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper and grated cheese.
7. Bring everything to a boil then simmer for 2 1/2 hours.
