This is one of my standby recipes, reports Valorie Walker of Bradley, South Carolina. I always have wieners on hand, so it's easy to dress them up with a tangy homemade barbecue sauce to create these 'ribs' that youngsters love. They're delicious served over rice, and leftovers reheat well, she adds.
Ingredients:
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup water
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup cider vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons ground mustard
2 teaspoons paprika
1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
6 hot dogs
hot cooked rice
Directions:
1. In a small saucepan, saute onion in oil until tender. Stir in the water, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, paprika and pepper sauce. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
2. Cut hot dogs in half lengthwise and then widthwise. Place in a greased 11-in. x 7-in. baking dish. Top with sauce. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until heated through. Serve with rice. Yield: 4-6 servings.
