This recipe is an old one from a 77 yr. old nurse co-worker whose mother gave to her.This recipe is not the yeast & lard one I will be posting soon for those who have asked me for an old hand -me - down family one.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup evaporated milk + 1/4 cup water ( or 1/2 cup milk)
5 tbsp. melted lard or crisco. cool. (not hot )
2 1/2 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
filling: 1 lb prunes
sugar to sweeten
filling : solo canned apricot filling or any variety of choice
Directions:
1. Mix altogether:
2. sugar ,egg, milk, lard, flour, baking powder
3. Mix and raise 15 min.
4. Roll out dough.
5. Cut into small squares or as big as you desire
6. Fill small am't in center
7. Pull each corner (4) to center & pinch corners to hold together.
8. Bake 375 degrees in pre-heated oven-15 to 20 min. or until golden brown.
9. To make prune filling;
10. wash 1 lb. prunes
11. Cover with cold water.
12. Let stand over-night
13. Boil until soft
14. Sweeten to taste with sugar or use jar of solo prune filling
