Potato Soup With Ham and Cheese

A super easy potato soup recipe that is wonderful on a crisp day.
Ingredients:
4 large potatoes (peeled and cut into bite sized pieces)
1 quart water (to cook potatoes in)
1 lb ham (cut into small chunks)
3 cups milk
2 cups cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
Directions:
1. Boil potatoes until tender enough to eat but not to soft.
2. Drain potatoes and reserve the liquid.
3. In a large pot melt butter.
4. When the butter is melted add the flour and whisk to combine until smooth.
5. Add the milk whisking to combine until smooth.
6. Add 2 cups of the potato cooking water.
7. Add the ham and cook for 5 minutes.
8. Add the cheese and stir till melted.
9. Add the potatoes, salt, pepper, and red pepper.
10. Place on the lowest heat and let set for 5 to 10 minutes for the flavors to blend.
11. Serve with crusty bread and maybe a salad.
