Portuguese Christmas French Toast - Rabanadas

This is a popular dessert or breakfast item we have during Christmas time in Portugal. Some call it rabanadas and others fatias douradas which means golden slices. They are delicious specially immediately after fried.
Ingredients:
10 thick slices of stale bread, i use a sort of large french baguette
2 cups warm milk + 1/2 cup warm water
1/2 tsp powdered cinnamon
4 small eggs, beaten
1 cup suger mixed with 1 tbsp powdered cinnamon
Directions:
1. Mix warm milk, water and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
2. Dip each slice of bread into the milk and water mix. Then into the beaten eggs and ladle on a big plate.
3. Pour about 2 inches of vegetable or peanut oil into a frying pan.
4. Fry 2 or 3 slices of bread at a time depending of the size of your pan.
5. Flip each slice after a minute or 2 until you get an even golden color.
6. After fried, coat the slices with the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
