Nice net thread on this unusal appetizers. Idea is to bake sugar coated bacon till it is sweet and crisp. Read more . I took my broiler pans and lined them with heavy duty foil. the put the rack with the holes on top of each. Neatly laid the coated bacon strips and basked at 350 for 30 minutes. at 20 minutes it just looked too limp to be a finger food. The bacon does get stiffer after coolling. Sometimes the nuts don't stick well either so try using finely chopped or combine sugar and nuts together and roll bacon in that 1 .
Ingredients:
bacon -- extra thick cut
honey or syrup, or sugar ( esp brown )
nuts ( optional ), chopped pecans or almonds
Directions:
1. On a rack over a baking pan, Ilay the bacon out flat, single layer, not touching.
2. About 45 minutes at 250F leaves behind a pan full of bacon fat and strips of bacon that feel like pig-flavored wisps; very light.
3. The strips have had virtually all the fat rendered.
4. Next, out of the oven and pour off the fat (to save for another
5. day).
6. Loosen the strips from the rack (if necessary) and either pile with brown sugar or trickle a generous amount of honey along their lengths.
7. Back into the oven to let the sweetness melt into the bacon.
8. Maybe 1/2 hour this time.
9. Note other recipes use 350F for 30 minutes and some say the nuts don't stick too well. See ideas in the description section above
