Pea Soup - Crock Pot

This is a modified version of my Mom's Pea Soup recipe - minus the ham bone, and made for the crock pot. It could easily be further modified to be vegetarian with the substitution of vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
Ingredients:
1 lb split peas
48 ounces chicken broth
1 white onion
5 -6 carrots
4 stalks celery
4 garlic cloves, pressed
1 bay leaf
1/4 teaspoon thyme
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper
Directions:
1. Finely chop the onion and celery.
2. Cut up carrots.
3. Rinse peas.
4. Add all to crock pot and cover.
5. Cook on high 4-5 hours or on low 7-8 hours.
