Paul Harvey's Wild Rice Soup

Paul Harvey November 1984. The best soup I have ever tasted.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup wild rice, uncooked
1 minced onion
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups water
2 cubed potatoes
1 bouillon cube (chicken or vegetable)
1 quart milk
1 lb velveeta cheese, grated
Directions:
1. Prepare wild rice according to directions on package.
2. Sauté onion in butter until tender.
3. Add water, potatoes and bouillon.
4. Cook until potatoes are tender.
5. Add milk and cheese, stirring occasionally.
6. When mixture is creamy, add cooked rice.
7. You can garnish the soup with cooked bacon bits.
8. You can add mushrooms and/or bell peppers with the onion when cooking.
