Hey heres another great recipe for camping out .....easy to make and yummy to eat.........you can use this alot of ways with butter and jam or peanut butter and bananas or cut it in half and spread with refried beans -, cheese and salsa or bacon and eggs. Ingredients:
4 - cups all-purpose flour
2- tablespoons sugar
2-teaspoons baking powder
2-teaspoons kosher salt
6- tablespoons cold vegetable shortening
1-1/2 cups buttermilk
6 - tablespoons unsalted butter for frying
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar. baking powder, and salt.
2. use your hands or a pastry cutter to incorporate the shortening into the flour mixture until it is crumbly.
3. add the buttermilk 3/4 cup at a time and lightly stir until just mixed.......
4. divide the dough into 6 equal portions and place on a lightly floured work surface.
5. gently roll each portion into 1 inch thick disk about 6 inches in diameter...............
6. melt 1 tablespoon butter in a cast iron skillet or heavy bottomed pan over medium heat.
7. add one disk at a time and fry for 4- 5 minutes each side until goden brown...............
8. repeat until all are cooked ...........
9. serve immed .............
10. yields 6 flat breads
