Pan Bagna Aka Bathed Bread

Bread that is bathed in olive oil and filled with delightful ( roasted ) vegetables and condiments. Easy put together for parties and picnics. Basically vegetarian and optional fish but NEVER any meat or cheese for authentic Pan Bagna Indeed use the extra virgin olive oil which has such a wonderful taste. Read more .I also smear with butter ( not margarine ) and also use anchovy oil to drizzle in between veges. The photo shows a partially open face view so you can see the insides
Ingredients:
1 whole fresh french bread or french rolls split lengthwise
fresh garlic minced
extra virgin olive oil and or softened butter - i use both
fresh black pitted olives or mixed olive salad
sliced or chopped red bell pepper rings- roasted are great
green bell pepper rings- roasted are great
fresh thin sliced tomatoes
anchoives ( optional ) i love it
capers
sliced onion rings- roasted are great
other options: ( non traditional but no meat or cheese )
albacore tuna chunks
grilled eggplant slices, roasted great
sardines
additional if desired
more olive oil and red wine vinegar or lemon juice
salt and fresh cracked black pepper ( to taste )
Directions:
1. Brush bread with butter or drizzle well with olive oil:
2. extra virgin please , and smooth on some fresh minced garlic.
3. Layer on olives, peppers, tomatoes and onions.
4. Sprinkle on capers
5. .Add anchoives if desired.
6. I prefer to keep my sandwich almost vegan.
7. Add some tuna chunks or grilled eggplant slices if desried .
8. Then drizzle with more olive oil and vinegar or lemon juice.
9. Salt and pepper to taste.
10. Press halves together to seal well.
11. Wrap sandwich in foil or plastic for 1/2 hour prior to serving.
12. Cut long loaf french bread into pieces or cut rolls in half
