I have surfed all the recipes and all I could find were orange waffles with bisquick, or orange waffles with lots of butter/oil. So I resorted to google and came across a recipe for tropical waffles ( /g/ODAzMzYxODo6Ojo2Ng==), and tailored it to my needs. The results were great, and I hope you enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups white whole wheat flour (or 1 c. all purpose, 1/2 c. whole wheat)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup orange juice (i used freshly squeezed)
1 teaspoon orange zest
1 egg
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon orange extract
chocolate chips
Directions:
1. Heat a waffle iron and lightly coat with nonstick canola oil spray.
2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
3. In a medium bowl combine orange juice, egg, canola oil, orange zest, and vanilla and mix well.
4. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
5. Cook until golden brown or until waffle begins to separate from iron, I found it took about 4 minutes for my iron.
