Onion Soup

My sister loves this soup but I admit I have never eaten it.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter
3 large onions
3 (10 ounce) cans beef consomme
1/2 cup red wine
1 cup swiss cheese or 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
1 cup crouton
Directions:
1. Melt butter and saute onions until clear.
2. Add consomme' and wine.
3. Pour into over safe individual bowls, sprinkle with cheese and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
4. Brown cheese by broiling.
5. Add croutons before serving.
