This is a very unusual but very good chowder. I love it and always double the batch. It's even better the second day so I take it in my lunch for a few days after making a big pot. Goes great with a nice dinner salad.
Ingredients:
2 medium potatoes cubed
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
pepper
3 cups milk
1-1/2 cups chopped ham
1/2 cup shredded sharp cheese
Directions:
1. Cook potatoes about 10 minutes.
2. Drain and reserve liquid adding water to make 1 cup.
3. Cook onion in butter until tender but not brown.
4. Blend in flour and pepper.
5. Add milk and potato water all at once.
6. Cook and stir until mixture thickens and bubbles.
7. Add ham and cheese.
8. Stir to melt cheese.
