Ingredients:

  • old fashioned prune cake with orange frosting
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup prune pulp or puree
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 1-3/4 cups sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tbsp cream
  • 1-1/3 cups sifted powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Cream butter and sugar then beat in eggs.
  2. Add prune pulp and beat well.
  3. Sift flour and spices twice and add to creamed mixture.
  4. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add to mixture then beat well.
  5. Add nuts then bake at 350 in greased and floured rectangular baking pan 45 minutes.
  6. For frosting combine powdered sugar with butter, orange juice, cream and orange peel.
  7. Beat until smooth then add remaining powdered sugar and beat until spreading consistency.
  8. Frost cooled cake.
