This is a recipe that my grandmother and my mother has handed down. It's spicy hot for some people, but you can always tone it down. :) It's great for football season and winter months!
Ingredients:
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 cans of bush's hot chilli beans
1 small onion (chopped)
1 can stewed tomatoes
2 cups water
1 tablespoon butter
a few shakes of soy sauce
a few shakes of hot sauce (texas pete is pretty good)
salt to taste, but not too much because of soy sauce
pepper to taste
garlic to taste
oregano to taste
cumin to taste
chilli powder to taste (probably a little more than you did the other seasonings)
(i never measure anything...sorry!)
Directions:
1. In a frying pan, melt butter and add onions. Cook onions til brown. Mix in ground beef and stir in soy sauce and seasonings slowly. Cook until brown. Stir in tomatoes and simmer for about 10 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in a large pot, add chilli beans and 2 cups of water. After beef mixture has simmered, stir in with beans. Add hot sauce (as hot as you would like it). Bring to a boil. Turn down heat and keep hot for about 30 more minutes. The longer the chilli sits, the better it tastes!! Great for leftovers!!
