A magnificent blend of textures and spices with a hint of coffee. These are great on a cold winter day.

2 cups packed brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup brewed coffee
1 cup raisins
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F ( 175 degrees C ). Grease cookie sheets.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening. Add the egg and mix well. Sift together the flour, cloves, cinnamon, baking soda, and baking powder; add to the creamed mixture. Stir in the coffee until well blended, then stir in the raisins, nuts, and chocolate chips.
