Oatmeal Cookies With Optional Twists

A good basic Oatmeal cookie that always turns out perfect. I've added a number of other tasty morsels to these cookies and every time they turn out great! In case you would like to try a little twist of flavors to this cookie I listed some in the recipe.
Ingredients:
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. 2% milk
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 cups old fashioned oatmeal
optional twists of ingredients i have used in these cookies
note: 1 cup each of any one or two of these ingredients are great in these cookies.
golden raisins
chopped cashews (my favorite)
chopped pecans, walnuts.
chocolate chips, or peanut butter chips
coconut
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a mixer bowl at medium speed beat the shortening and both sugars until creamy,
3. Add the eggs, milk and vanilla. mix well.
4. Mix together the flour, soda, salt and the baking powder in a bowl.
5. At a lower speed add in the flour mixture 1/2 cup at a time.
6. Continue mixing until well blended.
7. Stir in the oatmeal by hand or continue using the mixer.
8. Now is the time to add the optional ingredients if you wish.
9. Place dough on a lightly greased cookie sheet the size of walnuts about two inches apart.
10. Press each cookie to flatten slightly.
11. Bake for approx. 12-17 minutes, should be lightly browned.
12. Cool five minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
