Oatmeal Cake

This is one of my family's traditional cakes. It's quick, easy, and delicious. And it's a good (and fun!) way to eat oatmeal.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups water
1 cup quick oatmeal
1/2 cup oleo (or margarine)
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons oleo, melted (or margarine)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Bring the water to a rolling boil and pour it over the oatmeal; let stand for 20 minutes (DO NOT DRAIN).
2. Preheat oven to 350°F.
3. Add the oleo and sugar, and then add the eggs and vanilla; beat well.
4. Add the baking soda, flour, and salt; mix until smooth.
5. Pour the batter into a 9x12 loaf pan.
6. Bake at 350 F for 35-40 minutes.

8. Mix the ingredients together and apply to cake while hot.
9. Put the cake under the broiler until the top is golden brown.
