This recipe comes from an old newspaper clipping I found while cleaning in my kitchen. I haven't made this yet, but am planning on doing so soon. Granny Gina
Ingredients:
1 cup raw oats
6 cups unsifted all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 fresh yeast cake
2 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup luke warm water
2 cups boiling water
Directions:
1. Pour boiling water over oats, molasses, shortening and salt. Cool to lukewarm.
2. Dissolve yeast in the 1/2 cup lukewarm water and add to the first mixture.
3. Work in all the flour and knead until smooth.
4. Place in greased bowl, cover and let rise one hour.
5. Divide dough in half, shape loaves and place in greased loaf pans.
6. Let rise until doubled in bulk.
7. Bake at 350 degrees one hour.
8. Makes 2 loaves.
