These awesome oatmeal cookies are made with red hot cinnamon hearts candy (also known as cinnamon imperial hearts). Far better than average oatmeal raisin cookies. My friends call them 'bastard' cookies because of the spicy flavor of the candy. You'll never want to eat another oatmeal raisin cookie again.
Ingredients:
1 cup vegetable shortening
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons water
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups old-fashioned oatmeal
1/2 cup red cinnamon candies
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F
2. Grease some of your cookie sheets.
3. Cream shortening and sugars in a bowl.
4. Add eggs, vanilla, water to the mixture. Beat until *fluffy*.
5. Mix flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon in *another* bowl. Add to first mixture *a little at a time* until a dough is formed.
6. Mix in your oatmeal and candy.
7. Spoon onto your cookie sheets. Flatten cookies *slightly*.
8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until *lightly browned* all over. Don't forget to turn off your oven.
