This is great to serve as a midnight snack or when you have friends drop over..We would do this at night and our friends would gather in the kitchen, everybody cutting veggies..It was a lot of fun. This recipe is from the Tassajara Bread Book.
Ingredients:
1/2 cabbage: nappa or regular cabbage---i used nappa
1 large carrot
1 small-medium onion
3 celery stalks
2 cups (or more) whole wheat and unbleached white flour
1 egg, beaten
1 teasp salt
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tall can evaporated milk
enough water to make a batter
optional--1/2 cup meat or fish can be added
Directions:
1. Chop, shred, dice, or thinly slice vegetables and meat.
2. mix together remaining ingredients to form a batter.
3. fold vegetables into the batter and grill.
4. serve with butter and/or soy sauce. the Japanese perfer soy sauce
