These are the old-fashioned nuts and bolts that we have been making in our family at Christmas for decades. Wouldn't be Christmas without our nuts and bolts. You can use whatever crunchy cereal you want (except Life, as it has sugar in it) and you can add cheese nips or cheese Goldfish crackers or whatever you like, but I just like the four: Shreddies, Cheerios, pretzels and peanuts. Read more . Amounts don't matter too much in this recipe. Although, if you add a number of items or use bigger boxes and bags of ingredients, remember to use more oil and spices.
Ingredients:
1 medium box shreddies (don't use the diamond-shaped ones!)
1 medium box cheerios
1 medium bag stick pretzels
1 medium bag peanuts
2 cup salad oil
2 tbsp. garlic salt
2 tbsp. lawry season salt
2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients together in a plastic garbage bag, including oil and spices. (I find this the easiest way to do this).
2. Fill a roaster with the mixture and bake at 250 F for 3 hours, stirring after every 1/2 hour. If you have more than one roaster full, you can tie up the bag, set it aside and roast the rest another day. This freezes well and keeps in the freezer for a very long time.
