Good served either warm or cold, as a breakfast or coffee cake. I could eat it anytime!!
Ingredients:
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 - 2 cups brown sugar (depending on sweetness desired)
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk or soured milk
1 egg - beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts(any kind), optional
9 x 13 cake pan
Directions:
1. Combine butter, brown sugar, and flour.
2. Work together until crumbly
3. Reserve 1 cup of mixture for topping
4. Beat baking soda into buttermilk or soured milk and add to flour mixture along with egg, vanilla and salt.
5. Stir (DO NOT BEAT) all ingredients together until batter is smooth
6. Pour into greased cake pan(9X13)
7. Sprinkle reserved crumb topping over batter.
8. If desired, nuts can be added to crumbs before sprinkling
9. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 - 40 minutes
