Another one from Grandma Roberts. She says they're th McCoy I found them easy and just what the kids love, hot hand held pie. Ingredients:
pastry dough |
favorite flavor jam or applesauce |
cold water |
hot deep fat |
4 x sugar |
Directions:
1. Prep time includes chill time for the dough 2. Make one recipe of pastry (2 cup flour) 3. roll out thin on lightly floured pastry cloth 4. Cut in 4 inch rounds use saucer and cut around with a sharp knife. 5. Put 2 heaping tablespoons of strawberry preserves, raspberry jam, or apricot jam or applesauce in the center of each round. 6. Brush edges with cold water. 7. Now fold over to make a turnover. 8. Be sure to press edges very firmly together sealing with tines of a fork. 9. Fry a few at a time in hot deep fat (375) until golden brown. 10. Drain on paper towels and dust with 4x sugar. |
