New Orleans Bread Pudding

Authentic New Orleans. Serve with whiskey or rum sauce.
Ingredients:
12-14 slices day old bread
4 cups milk
1 cup cream
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 cup buttter, melted
1 cup raisins (optional)
rum sauce
1 can evaporated milk
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbs cornstarch
2 oz. whiskey or dark rum
Directions:
1. Tear bread into pieces and add milk and cream. Beat eggs and add sugar and mix well. Add to bread mixture and add vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir in butter. add raisins if desired. Pour into 2 quart baking dish that has been greased with butter. Set in larger pan of warm water. Water should be about an inch deep. Bake at 350 until knife inserted in center comes out clean, about one hour.
2. Rum or Whiskey Sauce
3. add cornstarch to milk and stir until dissolved. Add sugar and liquor and heat until slightly thickened. Dress each serving of Bread Pudding individually.
