New England Vegetable Chowder

Chowder is my favorite type of soup and this one seems like a good one.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter
1 small onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 cup celery, diced
1 cup carrot, diced
1 1/2 cups corn
1 cup green cabbage, grated
1 cup peas
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
4 cups milk
american cheese, grated
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a heavy kettle.
2. Add onion, green pepper and celery.
3. Saute until limp.
4. Add the rest of the vegetables and seasonings.
5. Add enough water to cover.
6. Cook 1 hour.
7. Stir in milk and parsley.
8. Ladle into soup bowls.
9. Sprinkle with cheese.
