Mystic Seaport Strawberries N' Champagne Punch

I found this in the Mystic Seaport All Seasons Cookbook and figured I would share. It's described as the ultimate summer punch. It sounds really delicious with fresh strawberries, white wine and of course, champagne! Perfect for bridal showers and anniversaries. Enjoy! *ALLOW 2-3 HOURS FOR THIS RECIPE*
Ingredients:
1 quart fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
1/4-1/2 cup superfine sugar
1 (750 ml) bottle dry white wine
1 cup kirsch
4 (750 ml) bottles champagne, chilled
ice ring with strawberry (optional. directions follow)
Directions:
1. Place strawberries in a bowl with sugar and white wine. Let stand for 2-3 hours to mellow.
2. In a punch bowl, place ice ring (directions below) or large block of ice. Add strawberry mixture, Kirsch and champagne.
3. TO MAKE STRAWBERRY ICE RING:
4. Place strawberries in an ice ring mold. Fill ice ring with water and freeze. The end.
