I like mushrooms with my steak, and this is how i usually do it. Simple and strong flavours.
Ingredients:
1 lb white button mushrooms (cleaned) assorted mushrooms work too.
3 tablespoons butter
2 oz lea & perrins worcestershire sauce
3 cloves garlic crushed and chopped
1/4 onion sliced paper thin, then chopped
1.5 oz jack daniels
few dashes of tabasco sauce (to taste)
parsley
2+ tablespoons parmesan cheese
Directions:
1. Cut up mushrooms as you like. .. or leave whole.
2. Melt butter in pan, and LIGHTLY brown garlic.
3. Add onions they should be paper think sliced, then diced up, so they almost disolve when cooked.
4. Cook onions with garlic till it is very slightly brown (dont burn garlic)
5. In Tin foil make a pouch add the butter/onions/garlic to pouch
6. Toss in mushrooms.
7. Add Jack Daniels, Worcestershire sauce (I only use Lea and Perrins) and tabasco sauce.
8. Add Parsley to taste
9. Seal up foil pack, and toss on BBQ, grill for 15-20 minutes (takes a while)
10. When butter and sauce starts to thicken in pouch and evapourate, remove. Mushrooms should be very dark.
11. Open pouch, and toss in cheese which should melt and mostly vanish, thickening up the liquid.
12. Sever over steak, (especially if its not the best of cuts) making sure the butter/garlic is drizzled over the steak, as well.
13. Makes even a basic cut of meat to die for.
14. (but dont ruin a good fillet ... serve mushrooms on side)
