This is my mom's recipe for stuffing (I probably shouldn't even be putting this on here!! haha) This stuffing is the end of all stuffing for me! It's SO good and easy to make. So if you don't like the boxed Stove Top crap or the funky, wierd stuffing out there, this recipe is for you! Read more !
Ingredients:
i truly just eye how much i need, so the following amounts are approximate
1 to 1 1/2 loaves bread (to be broken up and sat overnight)
about 1 cup onion
about 1 cup celery
1 to 1 1/2 sticks margarine
sage
salt
pepper
garlic powder (and whatever other seasonings you would like)
1 egg
Directions:
1. Break up bread into small pieces (about 1 to 2 in size) in large bowl and allow to sit overnight. Turn bread from time to time to allow air to hit all of it. The goal is to stale the bread a bit before you make the stuffing.
2. Melt 1 stick butter in frypan and add onion and celery; saute until veggies are softened.
3. Add sage (I don't have amount to add, I add it until the butter turns green and there is a strong scent of sage)
4. Add rest of seasonings.
5. If there isn't much juice/margarine left after sauteing is finished, add another 1/2 stick of margarine and melt.
6. Add margarine/veggie mixture to broken-up bread.
7. Add egg as well.
8. Mix well (even though it's hot, I use my hands to ensure all bread gets moistened. Too difficult with a spoon).
9. Stuff bird or transfer to a baking pan.
10. This stuffing tastes best in the bird because when those turkey or chicken juices get to it...mmmm MMMM!!
11. BUT if you choose to make in a baking pan, I usually bake it at 350 for about a half an hour (I'll make my stuffing leftover from stuffing the bird or an extra batch this way).
12. TRY THIS! It's sooooo good!
