Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9 X 9 baking pan.
  2. Cream molasses, sugar, shortening and eggs; set aside. Boil water, stir in baking soda, set aside. Sift together remaining dry ingredients, blend into creamed mixture. Add boiled water with baking soda (should still be very hot), mix well.
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
