Mom's Chopped Apple Cake

I found this in my grandmother's recipe box. I don't recall ever eating it, but it sounded simple and worth a try. I have one in the oven now and it smells very good, so we'll see. I used walnuts in this.
Ingredients:
4 cups chopped apples
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 beaten eggs
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
Directions:
1. Cream sugar and shortening.
2. Add eggs, apples, and nuts; stir.
3. Stir in baking soda, cinammon, nutmeg, and salt.
4. Add flour and mix well.
5. Pour into greased and floured tube pan or two loaf pans.
6. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean.
