Mom's Brownies - One Pan Method

You probably have most of these ingredients on the shelf, and I've never had a complaint about their taste! (12-1-07: a correction has been made to the preparation on this recipe.)
Ingredients:
1/2 cup margarine (8 t)
2/3 cup shortening
8 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cup nuts (optional)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. Place margarine and shortening in 9 x 13 pan and place in oven to melt.
3. cool slightly.
4. Combine cocoa and sugar, mix well and stir directly into melted margarine and shortening in pan.
5. Stir in vanilla, eggs and salt to mixture in pan, stirring thoroughly.
6. Add flour and nuts stirring just until blended, making sure to get into corners but don't over stir.
7. Bake at 350°F for 25-35 minutes.
