This is the apple pie we make for the holidays. I know its pretty average, but I want it out here for my kids to look up and use.
Ingredients:
9 inch pie shell, chilled or frozen
6 to 8 cups apple, we do not peel them, but it is really up to you
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup soft butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, optional
Directions:
1. Take a medieum size bowl and cut up the apples into it. We like to leave the peels on and slice, most people prefer to peel and slice. It works however you like it.
2. Put the 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in with the apples.
3. Toss apples until cover with cinnamon and sugar.
4. Gentle place apples into the pie shell. You may have to push them down in order to get a good fit.
5. In a small bowl mix the rest of the ingredients until crumbly.
6. Place on top of the apples.
7. Place pie on cookie sheet to catch over flow.
8. Bake at 350 f. for 50 minutes, or until apples are tender.
9. Let cool and serve with ice cream or whipped topping if you like.
10. -VARIATIONS-
11. -Instead of a 1/2 of flour you could use just 1 cup of oatmeal. You need to eliminate the salt, baking powder, and the baking soda.
12. -Use 1 cup of flour instead of the mixture of oats and flour. You need to eliminate the salt, baking powder, and the baking soda.
13. -It ndoes not matter which topping you choose to make you can take a 1/2 cup of the carmel sauce and drissle it over the pie just as you take it out of the oven. Let cool and serve.
