This was the recipe my Polish Grandmother used for years. I like it toasted and buttered. My Dad likes it straight up. Either way it is a nice traditional bread
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups milk
1 1/2 cups butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
7 -8 cups flour
1 1/2 cups raisins
2 compressed yeast cakes
1 teaspoon sugar
5 eggs, well-beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
1. bring milk to simmer with butter and let cool.
2. mix Ddry ingredients together with raisins and add to milk mixture.
3. dissolve yeast in small amount of warm water with 1 tsp sugar.
4. then add eggs and vanilla.
5. Knead well and let rise to double in bulk.
6. Break down and put in well-greased pan.
7. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
