~Meringue layer dessert~
Ingredients:
4 egg whites
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup sugar
almond praline
1-1/2 cups,chilled whipping cream
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon instant coffee
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Directions:
1. Cover 3 sheets with heavy brown paper.
2. Heat oven to 225 degrees.
3. Beat egg whites and cream of tarter until foamy.
4. Beat in 1 cup sugar,1 tablespoon at a time,continue beating until stiff and glossy.(Do Not Underbeat)
5. Shape meringue into three 8 circles on brown paper.
6. Bake 1 hour,turn off oven,leave meringues in oven with door closed,1 hour.
7. Remove from paper, very carefully,cool.
8. For the Almond Praline,cook and stir 1/2 cup sliced almonds and 1/4 cup sugar over low heat until sugar is melted and golden brown.
9. Pour onto greased sheet,cool.
10. Crush coarsely in plastic bag with mallet.
11. After the Almond Praline has been prepared.
12. Beat whipping cream,1 tablespoon sugar,the instant coffee and almond extract in a well chilled bowl until stiff.
13. Reserve 2 Tablespoons of Almond Praline for garnish.
14. Fold remaining praline into whipping cream.
15. Stack meringues,spreading whipped cream mixture between layers and over top.
16. Sprinkle with reserved praline.
17. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
