My favorite cookie by far. This is the recipe my mom used when I was growing up. I bet it was my grandma's too. I use a little less oats than what it calls for; the cookie looks chocolaty and shinier, just the way I like 'em.
Ingredients:
2 cups granulated sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup cocoa
3 cups instant oats
Directions:
1. Mix first four ingredients together in a saucepan on medium heat. Stirring constantly so mixture does not burn. Let it come to a boil and remove from heat.
2. Add vanilla, peanut butter, cocoa and oats. MIx together thoroughly. Drop by teaspoon full onto wax paper or clean, dry countertop.
