Meat Veggie Pastries In Yogurt Soup

This dish serves as appetizers or as a light meal, my kids love this hot or cold, can be served with side salad for a luncheon with friend along with home made bread.
Ingredients:
savory pie dough.
5 cups flour
2 cups warm water
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 egg (optional)
1/4 cup veg. oil
21/2 tsp yeast.
filling for meat pastries
1 lb lamb ground (use beef if preferred)
1 medium onion finely chopped
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/4 cup parsley finely chopped
1/4 tsp pepper (white if preferred)
1 tsp salt (to taste)
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice
a dash of cayenne pepper (optional.)
2tbsp butter
filling for veggie pastries
6-8 large potatoes diced medium
1-2 large onions diced
1/2 cup chopped red peppers
1/2 cup peas
1/4 cup parsley finely chopped
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp allspice (optional)
1/2 tsp pepper
a dash cayenne pepper (optional)
1/4 tsp cumin (optional)
yogurt soup
4 cups yogurt (full cream)
4 cups water
1/2 cup rice (rinsed and drained)
salt to taste
mint fresh or 12 tsp dried (optional)
Directions:
1. Savory dough.
2. Place warm water, sugar, yeast in bowl let stand 5 minutes, in another bowl mix oil, egg, salt, gradually add to flour, folding gently. Add water and yeast, using your judgment if more water is needed. Knead until all flour leaves the sides of the bowl. Pat a little oil over dough and cover with plastic then with towel, set aside in a warm place 30-40 minutes.
3. while dough is resting. Prepare the meat filling or veggie filling, your choice.
4. Meat filling saute onions in a little butter until slightly golden brown, add nuts and the add the meat, all the seasoning cook until meat is brown and set aside
5. If using veggie. Rinse potatoes in cold water, while browning onions drain and squeeze any excess water from potatoes and add to onions, the add desired seasonings .cook until potatoes are tender, set aside to cool.
6. Remove dough and cut in half, set one aside and cover to stay moist, roll out dough to approx. 1/8 inch thick, with a 2inch round cookie cutter cut dough circles, place 1 teaspoon of filling in center and fold press edges and take 2 ends and press together to form a crown place on a cookie sheet and repeat procedure until you have completed.
7. Prepare yogurt soup mix water and yogurt and bring to a gentle boil, making sure not to scorch add the rice and stir gently when rice is tender add the pastries gently and let simmer for about 10 minutes, making sure the soup is not to thick for the pastries to cook, if so just add enough water just before serving you add the mint, (optional)

9. You can pre-cook pastries Bring to a boil 3 quarts of salted water and pastries and cook for a few minutes remove and drain then add to soup.
10. This dish is so delicious, my family and friends always request it when I have cook out, its light and taste great on hot days as a cold soup or if you are cold and tired it is a great comfort food.
11. Pastries can be done ahead and frozen until need.
