Here's my version of a nice cream cheese spread or dip that is so easy to put together. Maple, cream cheese, and walnuts, cranberries or golden raisins are all of the ingredients. This can also be rolled in the walnuts and used as a cheese ball which actually make great Hostess gifts. Read more . Kids love this dip or spread as an after school snack with apples or pita bread and of course, you can send it to school with them for a Fall treat. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 , 8 ounce pack of cream cheese at room temperature.
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup dried cranberries or golden raisins
1/4 cup maple syrup
Directions:
1. Mix all of the ingredients together and serve.
2. For a nice display, put all of the ingredients into a small bowl that has been in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Press as much of the mixture as you can into the bowl and flip the bowl over on to a nice bed of lettuce or a paper doile. Put sliced carrots, celery sticks, apples and some plain vanilla wafers around the circle of dip and serve.
3. If you want to make this thinner, simply add more maple syrup.
4. This also tastes great with dried apricots and or pecans. My son loved to dip banana chips into this for a lunchbox snack at while. And both of my boys loved this on toasted bagels.
5. I double the recipe and using a small ice cream scoop, put individual scoops of the dip into small clear sundae glasses or tulip-shaped glasses, sitting on a paper doilies, surrounded by fresh fruit for a beautiful Sunday brunch dish.
6. (Warning, if you decide to use Maple Extract, you won't have the sweetness of the syrup. If you add sugar and extract instead of the syrup, you have to whip the cream cheese with the sugar before you mix it with the walnuts and cranberries or it will be grainy. I tried all of this before and if you stick to the simple recipe above, you'll have a much better result than if you deviate from it with substitutions!)
