Maple Nut Bars

Chewy and nutty.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1 egg
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Mix flour and granulated sugar in bowl. Cut in 1/2 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Press into bottom of greased 9 inch square baking pan.
4. Bake 15 minutes or until very lightly browned.
5. Beat egg, brown sugar, syrup, melted butter and vanilla in a bowl until well blended. Stir in nuts.
6. Spread evenly over crust.
7. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until topping is firm around the edges and slightly soft in the center.
8. Cool in pan; cut into bars.
9. Can be sprinkled with 10XX sugar.
