I can't remember where this recipe came from originally - I've had it in my recipe box for so long and it has become a favorite at pot lucks! These are also great to make ahead of time and freeze uncooked. To bake them from frozen, thaw on a baking sheet at room temperature for 15 minutes and bake them in a preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown. For a firmer texture you can add 3 cups of baking mix and 2 cups of shredded cheese. Ingredients:
2 lbs maple sausage |
1 1/2 cups all-purpose baking mix |
4 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese |
2/3 cup granny smith apple, peeled and grated |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir well. 2. Form into 1-inch balls and place them on an ungreased baking sheet. 3. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. 4. Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes before removing them from the baking sheet. |
