Every family has their version of meat patties but my grandma's love made these extra special. The sauce tastes great over white rice. Easy weeknight dinner.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 onion, sliced into rings
1/4 green bell pepper, sliced into strips
8 ounces tomato sauce
8 ounces water
1 teaspoon ketchup
1 dash cumin
salt
2 -3 sprigs cilantro
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients for patties. Mix well. Take about 1/4 cup meat mixture and form into a ball. Flatten ball into 2 1/2 inch evenly round patties.
2. In a large frying pan under medium high heat, cook patties until brown on each side. Place on a paper towel. Finish cooking the rest of the patties and also place on paper towel.
3. Discard fat rendered from patties and place the same frying pan under medium high heat.
4. Melt butter. Add onions and bell pepper. Saute about 2 mins scraping the bottom of the pan.
5. Add can of tomato sauce and water. Add ketchup, dash of cumin and salt to taste. Mix to incorperate.
6. Bring to a quick boil and taste to make sure that it has enough salt. Add patties back to pan and simmer on medium heat about 15 mins or until sauce has thickened a bit.
7. Add cilatro sprigs lasts and give it a stir before serving. Serve with/over white rice.
