Mama made this cake especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Family favorite.
Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
3 cups plain flour, sifted
1 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
7 egg whites, beaten stiff
filling
7 egg yolks, beaten well
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup coconut
3/4 - 1 box seedless raisins
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup wine
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Cake:
3. Cream butter.
4. Add sugar gradually and cream till fluffy.
5. Add sifted dry ingerdients alternately with milk.
6. Add vanilla.
7. Fold in beaten egg whites.
8. Divide evenly into 2 or 3 cake pans.
9. Bake for 15 to 25 minutes until golden brown and tests done.
10. Filling:
11. In double boiler or on low heat cook egg yolks, sugar and butter, stirring constantly, until thick.
12. Add raisins, pecans, coconut, vanilla, and wine, cooking about 1 - 2 minutes more, stirring constantly.
13. Spread on top of each cake layer.
14. Can double filling and spread on the sides too.
