Hey food groupies, I need your help!!!! I'm trying to come up with a low cost method of making something like Uncle Ben's Long Grain & Wild Rice (original recipe). I've scoured the Internet for recipes... Read more . and many of them are very good, but none of them really come close. I've been playing with it for a while, and I've come up with a recipe that tastes pretty good, but it's just not quite right. Any help any of you could give me would be very much appreciated.
Ingredients:
1 cup *parboiled* long grain enriched rice (white rice)
1/3 cup wild rice
1 tsp parsley flakes
1/2 tsp dry chopped onion flakes
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp dry celery flakes
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp ground turmeric
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 tbsp butter
2 1/4 cups of water
Directions:
1. Mix everything together in a saucepan that has a cover.
2. Add water, and bring it to a boil, while stirring.
3. Once it’s boiling, turn heat down to low, cover it, and allow to simmer for 25 minutes, or until the water is absorbed (stir every 15 minutes).
4. (Note: If you leave off the wild rice, make sure you remember to reduce the salt. Otherwise it comes out too salty.)
