Lentils and Spinach

This is a very tasty dhal I got from my sister-in-law who got it from one of her cookbooks, I don't know which one. I'll update later when I get the name.
Ingredients:
1 1/4 lbs chopped fresh spinach or 1 1/4 lbs frozen chopped spinach
1 medium onion, sliced in half rings
5 tablespoons oil
2 minced garlic cloves
1 cup red lentil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon black pepper
Directions:
1. heat onion and garlic for 2 min.
2. add lentils and 3 cups water and bring to a boil.
3. cover and simmer on low for 25 min.
4. add spinach, salt, cumin and bring to simmer for another 5 minutes.
