My sweet friend Mrs. Dorthy made these cookies for me. They are very tasty. I asked her for the recipe and thought I better share it! I did a little researchon Lebkucken..they are a traditional German cookie similar to Gingerbread(I think they taste much better) They were invented or created by some monks! Read more ! The flavor is absolutely delicious! Keep in mind you have to wait a week before you can bake them..it's so worth the wait!!
Ingredients:
2 lbs.honey(4 cups)
2 lbs brown sugar
1 lb. butter
4 cups walnuts or almonds,chopped fine
5 eggs
2 tsp all spice
1 tsp cloves
1/2 glass of brandy(hmmm not sure on this one..proubly about 1/2 cup or less)
1 lb. citron-ground fine
4 tsp soda-in a little hot water..when disolved add
12-15 cups of flour
frosting
4 egg whites
4 cups powdered sugar
4 tbsp orange juice
Directions:
1. In a large saucepan add the honey, brown sugar, and butter. Heat until warm.
2. Remove from stovetop and cool.
3. Transfer ingredients to a very large bowl.
4. Add walnuts or almonds.
5. Add eggs, allspice,cloves,citron,brandy, soda and flour.
6. Put in fridge for 1 week.
7. Roll out on floured board, cut with biscuit cutter or round shape.
8. Bake at 350* for 11-12 min.
9. Frost cookies while hot.Store in airtight container.
10. These store for weeks!
