These are appetizers served in Ramadhan with a variety of fillings. This one is made with a lentil filling, will be posting more recipes with different fillings soon.
Ingredients:
4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder (heaped)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon ajwain
1 teaspoon black pepper, crushed
1/2 cup yellow moong dal
1 cup water
1 teaspoon garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt
oil (for frying)
Directions:
1. Mix ingredients for dough and knead till soft.
2. To prepare the filling - boil the daal with all the spices listed till it is soft but not mushy.
3. Drain and let it dry.
4. Moisten palms with a little oil, take a tbsp of dough which you form into balls and flatten into small circles with your hands.
5. Place the daal filling in the middle of the circle, bring sides together and pinch to close.
6. Flatten the ball again.
7. Repeat with the remaining dough.
8. Deep fry.
9. Serve.
