Italian Sausage & Roasted Pepper Sandwiches

Great sandwiches for game day!
Ingredients:
4 italian sausages (mild or hot)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced and separated
1 garlic clove, minced
6 ounces jarred roasted red peppers (more or less to your taste)
1 (15 ounce) can italian-style tomatoes
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
4 brats buns or 4 french rolls or 4 hot dog buns
Directions:
1. Cook sausages in large frying pan over medium heat until golden brown. Remove from pan and set aside.
2. Add oil, onion, garlic and peppers to pan drippings. Cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are soft, about 10-15 minutes.
3. Stir in tomatoes, breaking up with a spoon.
4. Stir in basil, sugar, salt and black ground pepper.
5. Add sausages, cover and cook for 15 minutes.
6. Remove cover, increase heat to medium high and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
7. Place sausages and pepper and tomato mixture in bun and enjoy!
