I like to serve this as an appetizer, or as a side with a steak dinner when we're grilling out in the summer - a little surf and turf is always good!
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons butter, softened
3 tablespoons mayonnaise (use real mayonnaise for this recipe)
5 ounce jar kraft old english sharp cheese spread
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon celery salt
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 green onions, diced finely
6 ounces canned crab meat (use the good stuff!), well drained
1 large loaf french bread, sliced in half lengthwise
Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, cream together butter, mayonnaise, Old English cheese spread, and the seasonings.
2. Stir in shredded sharp cheddar, diced onions, crab meat.
3. Spread the crab mixture evenly over the 2 halves of French bread. Lay bread halves on a cookie sheet (I line mine with foil for easy clean up) and bake at 375 degrees until spread is hot and bubbly, about 12 to 15 minutes.
4. I like to turn on the broiler for just a minute or two at the end of baking, to get a nice light golden brown on the top of the loaves.
5. Remove bread from oven and cut into slices for serving.
